oh the decline

HOLA!

I'm not sure why I'm updating here.  I guess I was thinking about how much I blogged here in highschool.  Which was sort of the only reason I remained sane and didn't completely eat all of my hair before graduation.  Anyway....my last update was in...um...September of last year...whoops.  Livejournal has taken over all my bloggingAHHHHHHHHH!  :P

So in summary: fall semester was hard (of course) but it was fun too!  Organic Chem two was a ***...but it's over now.  YAY!

It's the end of IAP right now.  I recently painted three and a half murals on my hall, took a Matlab class, learned new bellydancing choreography, and took Tae Kwon Do for PE credit (woot! kicking people is fun!)  I kinda want to join the tkd club, but I'm registered for five classes and I'm an LSC director for this term so I don't think I'll be able to devote time to that.  Oh and also I kinda suck at Tae Kwon Do.  lol.  We'll see.  Maybe in the fall?

I miss rugby...........but not the rugby injuries.....sigh...

Gah! no one is reading this, I should stop typing.

sophomore year thus far...

HOLA!
Once again I practice my tradition of silence by not bloggin here. sigh.  it's just not as fun now that peeps who aren't at MIT can't comment.

I'm back at school and in the full swing of classes [like Organic Chem too!]  i REALLY like my classes this term.  I'm taking this really awesome poetry class that I love.  I painted my room! and my neighbors are awesome.  Pretty much life is good:) despite all the work and the stressing about med school.

I'm going to be 34 when I can actually practice neurosurgery on my own.  34!!!!

Soooooo worth it.

Anyway, I'll fill in the massive blanks at a later time.  Now I'm going to eat Baklava.  Yum.

about that tree hugging.

HOLA!

I just got back from Texas.  I was there with my family for the weekend, and we dropped my little brother off at my grandparents' house to stay for part of the summer.  It was hot, but it was nice to see my family.

I thought summer vacation was a time for catching up on sleep.  Apparently I was wrong.  I guess it's good practice for next term:)

In a few days some friends of mine from high school are going camping in San Isabella, CO - and also to the Great Sand Dunes, because I have never been there and that is really a shame.  So far, my friends and I have an inflatable raft, an old subaru, and no food.  It'll be awesome!  I'm gonna go hiking and try to shake off my Boston paleness:D

Right now, I'm going to shake off all the traveling I've been doing.

HOME!

HOLA!

Okay, so I've been slacking on this blog ... livejournal has begin to suck most of my entries.  I think it's because of the cool icons.

Anyway, here's an update on my enthralling life.  I'm home:)  I have a paying job, and an internship!

Today I washed my puppy dogs, and cleaned the backyard.  It is really hot here - about 95 each day!  This weekend I plan to chill with cool Denver people and eventually go camping.  I love that there is no humidity here.  We're kind of in a drought right now, like last year.  There are wildfires and watering restrictions in some places.

Since I've been home I've gone archery shooting and hiking - I  really missed that in MA.  I think I'm gonna try to get pistol for my next P.E class.  Well that's pretty much it.  If something terribly exciting happens I'll write it here.

At Last.....some other words in that song....

HOLA!

So 'tis time for finals once again.  Which is part of the reason that I have been a slacker and have not blogged for a very long time.

Cliff Notes of My Life (since last update):
Boys are stupid (but you already knew that)
Not having an annoying room mate is amazing.
I haven't paid for food ALL week:)  Go me, and my ability to find free eatables.
I hope to a great deity that I pass 8.02
I will probably get 'A's in all my classes except 8.02  (WHOOT)
Hopefully I will have a neuroscience-oriented job this summer in Denver!!!
When I get home I'm going to go to the mountains and hug some trees.

That is pretty much it.  I should study now.

A Room of One's Own

HOLA!

I'm typing this from my new room in East Campus!!!!  I love it:) I have most of my stuff moved, and I know my neighbors' names!!  We actually talk in the hallways here - isn't that a crazy concept:P

It's kind of hard to type because my right hand is all bandaged.  The doctor at MIT medical is pretty sure that I fractured it playing rugby yesterday morning.

Today is Oddball Olympics - in which residents of EC compete in strange competitions for glory:)  My hall is apparently reigning champion from last year.  Right now they are doing the limbo competition.  I can tell because they are playing limbo music in the courtyard, and my window is open.  It's pretty awesome:)

More later, when I regain full use of my hand.

Thig a Fidheil an Nochd.

HOLA!

Hokay, so: had a rugby game today (yay!).  I really feel like I'm getting better - now that I've actually SEEN a game:)  I never thought I'd like team sports, but I play soccer with the MSA too, and it's a lot of fun.

I'm once again back to my love/hate relationship with physics.  Actually the "beef " is not with physics.  The "beef" is with TEAL.  I really dislike the whole setup of the class.  Oh well, guess I gotta suck it up and and kick butt.  All my other classes are good - I'm learning soooo much everyday.  Organic Chemistry is actually kinda cool:)

I met a girl who is on the BU rugby team, and she is from the area around my mom's tiny hometown in Texas (she lives in Gainesville).  It was crazy!  She was really nice and played for our team today, because we were short players due to Easter this weekend.

Speaking of Easter; I gave up coffee for Lent, and I have less than 24 hours until I can drink it again!!!!  I'm gonna need it this week.

Still not moved out yet, doing my best to remain sane - which is hard when I'm not fully caffeinated.  I haven't resorted to Rugby tackles..........yet.

The pre-froshies are here!!

HOLA!

It must be CPW, because today it is sunny, and everything is fixed - like the automatic door at 77 Mass Ave., and all the burned out light bulbs.  And there are bright-eyed pre-froshies everywhere smiling and frolicking, without the lines etched in their faces by psets.

I love Pre-froshies:)

The CalTech Fleming House Cannon wound up on the dot by building 54 for some reason this morning.  A far better hack than the dorky t-shirts passed out by Cal-Tech last year on the MIT campus.  Props to the hackers.  whoot.

Not much to say.  Finished a rather brutal 18.02 pset today at 5am.  'Twas pretty hard-core.  Tonight's activities include: taking advantage of all the parties and free food on campus, as well as introducing myself to a hall at East Campus (where I shall hopefully soon reside).

Saturday is Battle of the Bands!!  I shall go see Ben Jones and his band in action:D

I plan to go eat now.  Much like this.

here comes the sun

HOLA!

I was seriously bummed about coming back to Boston, because of the lack of sun - but today surprised me with an actual blue sky and UV rays:)

In other news:  My room mate unplugged my fridge after I left for spring break, so everything in it had an entire week to become very interesting organic messes.  Not sure why she pulled the plug.  Can't wait to move to EC - where my tofu will be properly cooled.

Arizona was amazing!  I really liked the desert, and all the sun.  Currently I'm developing a slight obsession with cacti, and all their spiky goodness.  While we were in Tucson we went to the 4th Ave. Fair - which was extremely cool.  Well actually it was hot - but there was no humidity so it was alright:)

Campus Preview Weekend is coming!!!!  All the admitted high school seniors will soon be here to check out MIT.  I can't wait!  CPW last year was awesome.  Pre-frosh are really fun, and an excellent distraction from all the work I have to do.

Forget Cancun, I'm gonna sleep.

HOLA!
I wrote physics a letter.  Here it is in all it's blunt glory:

Dear 8.02,
Watch your back.  I'm 'bout to open a can of whoop-ass on you.  No joke.
Love,
Kiersten.

I don't think anyone reads this anymore, because of the URL change.  So I doubt that 8.02 will see my letter - but I'm too cheap to post it in the mail, and I don't know where physics lives anyway:)
That was sufficiently incoherent.  I'll stop now.

ADIOS!~Kiersten~

shook -> shock!

HOLA!
So today in 8.02 (physics class) I finally realized what AC/DC meant.  Yeah.  Well, at least I know now.   And the little lightning bolt thingy in the middle of they're logo makes sense too.  Looking back, the memebers of AC/DC were huge nerds...with guitars.  :)

WALTER LEWIN SAYS MY NAME CORRECTLY!!!!!!!!!!!

HOLA!

yeah, the title really says it all. It's still very exciting I think:)....

who the crap is that? you might ask.

ADIOS!~Kiersten (Key-ear-stan)~

I think I'm the only non-dj who listens to WMBR.

HOLA!

Valentine's Day was yesterday, and there were hordes of a capella groups stalking other peoples' lovers down the hallways. It was quite amusing. But it did interfere with my learning about matrices a little. I guess that's alright, since it was for love :P

On a completely unrelated note: I think I want to double major in course 6 and 9. (that's computer science, and brain and cognitive science). That would be pretty sweet me thinks.

Also I think I love Quentin Tarantino movies. Yes, I've joined the massive club of Tarantino admirers....whatevs. (the plural of whatev...hehe...so amusing). I think playing rugby has affected my taste in movies. I'm not sure though, 'cause I really like "Love Actually" - which is pretty sappy and is the classic English interwoven stories plot thing - plus I love the singing at the end:)

Hearts no longer creep me out! (I mean the organ, the theoretical emotional kinds are still throwing me for a loop). Not sure why, but I can think about them and not be completely grossed out. Thinking about lettuce still gives me a gag reflex though... I'm not sure what that says about me.

Well, it's tool time kidz.

ADIOS!~Kiersten~

spent the night arguing with a dj about the location of Redrocks.

HOLA!

Well, today was the first day of second semester and I'm making an effort to remember it since I have no recollection of the first day of last semester. Which I suppose is justified considering it wasn't actually my first day of classes at MIT. I do, however, remember the first day of Interphase - and I think that counts more because it was like 300 degrees Kelvin that day, and I was all, "OMG, it's MIT!"

Not a very extraordinary day. I really like my math teacher. He actually looks at the class when he teaches [GASP] and he has a sense of humor, and he found my planner, which I of course lost on this, the first day of school. Go me.

9.00 (intro to psych.) is really cool. Except there are like 308 people who want to take that class. I'm glad I'm registered for it. The prof is cool, and he used Michelangelo in one of his slides. I was really excited. I need to hang out with art people. I'm going crazy. I'm drawing all over my knees and I've covered my notebooks with stuff.

My last glassblowing class is Thursday [NooooooOOOOOooooo]. I'm le sad. I LOVE that class, and it helps with the whole not going insane thing that I've been working on.

^here is the second cup I made. Which I gave to Iman.

^and another glass.

In regard to the title of this post I was up very late last night/ this morning arguing with a WMBR DJ on the air about the location of redrocks. He said it was in Utah, so I called him and told him that Redrocks was a natural ampitheatre in Colorado. He changed his stance and said that he was referring to red rocks in general - which is acceptable. I'm sure there must be some red rocks in Utah somewhere. Then I realized that it was 3:30 am and that I had class at 9:00am...so I drew some more and then went to bed.

Well, that's all for now. Must tool. [sigh]

ADIOS!~Kiersten~

free from fizzyics for a week

HOLA!

So I pretty much rocked liked Hendrix on the final exam for physics :) Which is good because I had sort of convinced myself that I wasn't even taking physics all of last semester, which did not really help my grade in that class. All hail pass/no record. But mostly hail pass, and my getting my act together for the final.

I've done almost everything that I wanted to do this IAP.

THE LIST:

I went to the Museum of Science, I hung out with Iman (like every single day:D) I won tickets on WMBR to go see the band, The Sharking, at the Middle East on Mass Ave., I passed physics, I took glassblowing, I dissected a brain, I bellydanced, I ate at the pour house (every Saturday), I learned how to animate with a computer, I went to the MFA, I saw MTG's production of Urinetown, I explored Harvard square, I wandered around Boston, I went to the Bad Ideas Ball, I played rugby, I slept in Killian Court, I watched Basketball on tv, and I generally had a wicked good time:)

I didn't get to draw as much as I wanted to, but there is still time before classes start. I'm really not ready for the onslaught of psets that are soon to consume all of my time. Alas, poor January I knew thee well. Well on to February, and the hell of second semester...
