Hey everyone!
After a long absence, I'm back! For now, I'm utilizing a blog via Myspace. It's a pretty cool website that allows you to keep in contact with people and post pictures and such. It's along the same lines as facebook, but it's open to a much larger audience. Anyways...here is the link to my new Myspace blog. I'm sure I'll come back to this blog from time-to-time, but Myspace is where you'll find me these days.
An update on my life: I'm halfway through my Junior year! I feel so old! It's crazy to think that I'll graduate in a year and a half. I'm loving my classes. I think I ended the semester on a high note. My classes for next term seem alright (except icky Physics II). I'm looking forward to Psychology, Geology, and Intro to Philosophy of Language though!!! This IAP (Independent Activities Period), a month-long break during which students have the opportunity to work, take classes, and partake in fun things on campus, I'll be working, taking a design seminar in the Poli Sci department and doing some PE classes. I'll be pretty busy, but I'll be having tons of fun at the same time! :-). (My two PE classes are Yoga and Baseball: the Art of Hitting...haha, leave it to MIT!).
I won't lie...the next time I update this probably won't be until the end of the semester, but I might just surprise you...
Oh! Stay tuned! I'm going to Spain for Spring Break, so I'll be sure to update on that! Yay!
Adios!
Katelyn
Hi folks!
I'm sorry I haven't written in so long! I was so busy getting ready
and then getting back to MIT. Finally, I'm all settled and ready to
update you all on my life!!! Aren't you excited? Hehe! Let's see...I
got back here Sept. 3 and have been caught up in a worldwind of
friends, classes and rush ever since.
First off...I love my classes! I'm taking 5 of them and they are all
quite a bit of work, but the subject matter is cool and I'm staying on
top of it all. Linguistics rocks, by the way. You all should be Course
24. :-). Check out the link on the side there to learn all about how
you can be a Linguistics major, too!
Next up: friends! I have seen most all of my friends now and have
had the chance to catch up on summer stories and the like. Most
everyone had a good summer, which I was so glad to hear! The freshman
on my floor and everywhere are so cute! Oh I adore them! I got to meet
tons of bloggers already! Yay for that! If I haven't met you, we must
see each other soon! Hmm...let's see...I caught up with my Nexties, my other friends, and my TXis...which leads me to rush!
TXi had a great rush with 11 fantastic pledges! Shout out to anyone
who's reading this! :-). I've met some really awesome new people at TXi
as well. Weeeee!
So one of those TXi froshies introduced me to the Student Art Exchange
here at MIT and I actually won in the lottery so I get to take home a
picture/painting for the semester! I'm so excited! I can't wait to see
which one I got!
So this was kinda short...I apologize. Updates will be sporadic. If
you wish to know about anything in particular, let me know and I'll
post it!
Biiiig Hug!
Kate
I have more pictures of Nate! Beware, very adorable...may cause uncontrollable smiles and giggles. :-). Here we go!

Nate and his family live down in Florida which was initially brushed by hurricane Katrina. They're ok though. I fear for those down on the Gulf Coast now. I hope everyone will be ok!
Since my update was so short last time, I'll make this one a bit longer. I went and saw March of the Penguins with my brothers. So fun! Penguins have long been my favorite animal, but even more so now that I have seen this movie! I've been kayaking again and working, of course. I'm done with work Wednesday! I'm heading back to MIT Saturday night. Scary to think that summer's over. I don't want it to be. I want to be here for another few weeks!
Alrighty, I'm outta here! Catch ya on the flipside!
Hugs,
KT
...here's another post! I have been up to my eyeballs in work lately. I worked 8 days straight. Needless to say that after I finished that stretch, I was exhausted. Here I am though, ready to update! I'm going back to MIT in less than 2 weeks! Many of you are already back. Some of you are there for the first time. I hope you're all enjoying it! It's definitely an awesome place to be. :-).
I am working right up until the day I leave, so don't expect too many updates from me. I'm getting excited about the return. My classes will be fun and it will be nice to see everyone again (and meet the '09s!). I'll miss home though. I don't have a countdown going as I'm not in a big rush to head out of here. I'll make it to MIT when I make it to MIT. :-).
See you soon!
Hugs,
Katelyn
Hi everyone! I have pictures for you! I don't have pictures of me catching fish because all we caught were sandsharks! Those damn things kept eating our bait and stealing sinkers. Grrr! Apparently this is their breeding season. Anyways, the trip itself was lots of fun! I got to spend time with my brothers and my Dad as well as my cousin and uncle. :-). Without further ado, here are pictures!
Duxbury's Bug Light

Duxbury Pier (Gurnet) Light

Duxbury Pier (Gurnet) Light...again

Tanker we saw as were we were riding along

Those damn sandsharks got caught on the anchor line!

Hope you found these fun to look at! I love the picture of Bug Light. Oh, that is so totally a postcard pic! It was so gorgeous out there! Nice breezes and good company. My older brother even won a free trip! We'll be fishing again, soon! Yay!
Hugs,
Katey Jo
This weekend has been wonderful. My cousin, uncle, and two great aunts came down on Friday night around 10pm and stayed until 2am. Oh, they are a laugh a minute. I'm so glad they came down for the evening. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and hope they come back to see us again soon!
Yesterday was a lazy day for me, but a nice one! I went out fishing, but ended up doing more tanning than fishing. Hehe! Today I was supposed to go whale-watching, but it didn't work out the way I planned. Oh well. Hopefully we'll go some other time! That would be nice!
Unfortunately, I head back to work tomorrow. It's nice not having to work long hours. I'll miss that. Oh well. I shall survive. I always do. :-). Oh! I'm going deep sea fishing on Thursday! That will be tons and tons of fun! Weeee! We're heading out of Plymouth, Massachusetts on one of Captain John's boats. Last time I went deep sea fishing, I caught a flounder. It'll be interesting to sea what kinds of fun fish I can catch and eat this time! Hehe!
I'll update when I think you'll be interested!
Hugs,
Katey Lynnie
Weee! Life is beautiful! I'm so happy right now! I have a ton of great things to look forward to, I can't stop smiling! The luminaria is this Friday night. My cousin Sarah (not friend Sarah) will be over from California for that. The luminaria is a festival of lights. The entire coastline of Humarock and Scituate is adorned with candles. It's so cool! I'll have to take pictures to show you all. I can't wait to see my cousin again, too. It's been since Easter since I've seen her. I'm going whale-watching this Sunday with some friends from school! I'm going deep-sea fishing next week with my Dad and brothers!
The ocean is perfect for swimming right now! It's almost all sand! It's fantastic! The water is nice and warm, too! Yaaaay life! I've been working a little and relaxing a lot. I'm saving up money though for Europe! Yup, that's right, I'm going to Europe this coming Spring Break! I can't wait for that. Oh this is so exciting and so awesome. Hehe! Weeee! I love being happy and smiling! Woohoo! Laila and Elina are gonna visit my room with a possible sleepover! Funtimes ahead, folks! Hold on tight, this world is taking us for a ride. W0000t! I think I better go before this post gets any cheerier! Hehe!
Hugs!!!
Katelyn
P.S. I miss you, Steph!!!
...Wow! That sounds so sad! I'm not sad. I'm actually very happy! I just have Anna Nalick songs in my head. Such a great artist and my age, too. She, too, went to an all girls Catholic High School. It's so cool to come across naturally talented people who sing about stuff that I think about. :-). I'm definitely going to pick up her album.
There isn't a whole lot new with me. I'm still nursing my sunburn along. (I went fishing last weekend and got burnt pretty badly on my legs. Ouch!!!) Life is beautiful and I am enjoying it very much. Summer is for relaxing and collecting thoughts and thinking, but not too hard. The sun shines and even when it rains, I'm happy. Thunder doesn't spoil my day, rather it lets me curl up with a good book and nice cup of tea. :-).
So I hear you all know where you are staying now! A lot of you are coming to Next! Laila and Elina are living there and rooming together! Samin is even living on my floor! I'm very excited about that! You'll love it there! I know that Jane is moving into McCormick. She will be living in luxury. I kid you not, McCormick is like living in a hotel. The rooms are big and comfortable and the kitchens are awesome. Kiersten and Meder are moving into Simmons. Good for them! Simmons is a really cool dorm. Be careful not to get lost. I've done that a few times. They have a meditation room which you should check out. Saad is moving into MacGregor. I have some friends who live there and they really like it. There is a lot of entry pride going on in MacGregor. I'm sure you will be really happy there, too! Yay for the '09s! I can't wait to meet you all. Remember to ask me questions if you still have them. I would imagine you are starting to get more questions as you think about moving in and such. Just shoot them my way and I will be sure to answer them for you! :-)
Hugs,
Katey
All that we are resides in the half-baked pipe dreams we throw out the window of a moving car. Driving fast down Route 66, where the only place to go is up high into the deep blue. Sky is the limit on our enthusiasm if only we indulge. In our imagination we find fragile hope. Floating down the river, I am lost in a dream where the sun beats on me, but I do not burn. The road ahead of me is forked with only a few road signs to guide my way. Home is where the heart is. Forever I'll stay in this immaculately messy world of yes and no, right and wrong, left and right.
I like it here.

It's been a week since I've updated. I have been busy/lazy about it recently. Hmm...interesting things that have been happening in my life...I fished for the majority of the day yesterday! That was cool. The South River is across the street from our cottage in Humarock. My younger brother and I rowed out to the dock and fished for a while. I was smart and put sunscreen on, but apparently not smart enough to put it on my legs. Now I have blotchy burns on my legs which are quite painful. (You can tell that I sat cross-legged on the dock which I think is highly amusing. :-P.)
My UROP work has started up again which is nice. I'll hopefully have a link for you to check out soon to see how I've been doing with that. :-). My other jobs are going fairly well. Nothing terribly exciting going on there.
This weekend was gorgeous weather, a welcome change from the unbearable heat of earlier last week. Alas, the heat is once again upon us, but I get out of work early tomorrow and plan on fishing the rest of the day and swimming as well! (I promise to wear suncreen on every exposed inch of sun!!)
Oh! I saw Boondock Saints yesterday. Weird movie, very weird movie, but good! I recommend it to any mafia-loving, semi-violent movie fan. A much more to my taste movie that I caught this weekend was The Village. Oh, that was a great film. I most definitely recomment you see it. It's not what you expect at all. The end is eye-opening.
Alrighty, I hope this satisfies your curiosity for news with my life. :-). Steph bugged me about updating, so I did! Yay!
Hugs,
Katelyn
Pictures of the baby! Yaaay! You may all rejoice now as I am about to show you pictures from little Nate's Baptism. Yes, it's true, I'm in love with a short (nearly) bald guy. My Godson is just too precious for words. Let me just warn you...the baby you are about to see is verrry cute. These pictures are not to be looked at by anyone who is not ready to be overwhelmed by such adorableness. Ok, here goes!
From left to right: myself (the Godmother), Alyson (Nate's mom), Bill (Nate's dad, he's holding Nate), Chris (the Godfather)

Us again

Baby Nate er, um, Blog! No, no, it's Nate!

Nate being Christened

Baby again! Hehe! I told you he was cute!

I hope you enjoyed these pictures! I'm hoping to have another picture of him up sometime soon. My aunt took a picture of me holding Nate at my uncle's 40th birthday party. It would be nice to show you that one. I might make it my facebook picture.
Alright, dear folks. I must prepare for bed now. Won't Sarah and Steph be happy to see these pictures (I hope everyone else is, too!!)
Hugs,
Katelyn
Well, it seems as though I haven't updated this here blog in quite some time. I reckon I ought to remedy that. :-). How seems my western twang? Ok, back to plain speak. Hehe! I must say though, I love accents. I'm absolutely fascinated by them and trying to master them. There are slight nuances that separate even the most similar of languages. Within the United States alone, there are countless accents and variations among spoken English.
In other news...I went shopping for gifts for baby Nate. As Godmother, I have exclusive spoiling rights and I intend to fully exercise those rights.
So I just finished watching The Italian Job. Such a good movie. I owe my love and appreciation for Mini Coopers to that movie. Isn't that car adorable! It's a Mini Cooper and...it's pink! That is totally my dream car.
Speaking of dreams, I think it's about high time I wrote about my aspirations. I keep going back and forth on how I want to end up in this world. Sometimes I think I want to have a free-as-a-bird mentality, no cares or concerns, just living life. A week or two ago, these sisters, probably in their late 30s) came into my store. They didn't have loads of money or anything like that, but they were so happy. They tried on funky Indian clothing and starting banging around on drums and such. They had a blast! I thought to myself: hmm, maybe I want to live like that. I think I might get a little restless with that kind of life though.
Sometimes I think I want to live comfortably, with enough money not to worry, but I don't think I'd be happy with that unless it came complete with a loving husband and several happy children. Family is more important to me than anything. I want to be a good mom and a good wife to a beautiful family. I'm being honest when I say that nothing would make me happier. Of course, that doesn't mean that I'm going to sit on my butt until that happens. No way! I'm at MIT and I have the power to cruise among the movers and shakers of the world.
I'm going to be a junior. That means I should really start thinking about what I want to do after I graduate. I could go onto Grad School and get a Masters in Linguistics. I could start studying for the LSATs and then go to law school. I could take some classes and getting a teaching certificate. I could do sooo many things! I need to think this one through a bit. I'll make a lot of decisions this year about life.
How about after all that is said and done though...when I have my family...where will we live? What kind of house will we live in? Will we have a pet? Well, I want to live in a place where there aren't a lot of trees because I don't like woodsy areas with lots of bugs. I would love to live by the ocean. That would be amazing. I like the downhome feel of the South, although I would miss my family up north. Hmm...I want to live in a Victorian style home. Much like this one. I want to drive a Mini Cooper, of course. I might like a dog. A labradoodle! How is it that puppies are sooo cute?! We'll see if any of these things that I have dreamt of actually come true. They are all material and thus not nearly as important as the emotional things in life. :-). I'm absolutely serious when I say that. Material things are just that...material...easily replaced and forgotten, but not family, not friends. They are irreplaceable. :-).
Alright...I think I've made this post long enough for you all to read. Take care, everyone!
Hugs,
Katelyn
I'm a Godmother! In the Catholic tradition, people being christened get Godparents. My new baby cousin Nathaniel Robert "Nate" is being baptized this Sunday. My Uncle Billy and Aunt Alyson asked me to be the Godmother. This means that I must be a good example of faith for him to follow. I feel so honored. I never expected it which makes it so special to me. :-). Here's a picture of the little wonder. Hehe!

Isn't he adorable?! That pic is a month or two old, so I will definitely update with more after the baptism this weekend! He was born April 18, 2005. Hehe! My little Godson. I just adore him!
Next post will be about my hopes and dreams and such. It seems to be a trend to do that...according, at least, to Steph and Sarah. I want to follow suit. :-). Enough for now though. I may edit this later with something.
Hugs!
Katelyn
Hi all!
So my June was pretty nice. I worked, but not crazy long hours or anything. It was a nice little break. Now July is in full swing and my days are jam-packed with lots and lots of work. This is what happens when you want to make money and people expect a lot out of you! I've been working at least 9 hour days! I'm not complaining though, really I'm not. I love keeping myself busy with things.
Now it's time for me to give a plug to this duo named Tegan and Sara. I've been listening to their music at work because my co-worker, Melissa, is a fan. Their songs are wonderful. Lately, they've been featured on the show Grey's Anatomy on ABC (awesome show, by the way...comes on after Desperate Housewives where I'm from...). I don't really watch all that much TV, but I do enjoy those two shows. Anyways, I got on the TV show kick by talking about Tegan and Sara. I highly suggest listening to I Know, I Know, I Know, Fix You Up, and Speak Slow. I'm trying to convince Steph to a cappella-ize it for Resonance, the awesome a cappella group she's in with Anisa. Seriously, Resonance is awesome. When you get to campus you must see them perform. You won't be disappointed.
Steph also suggested that I mention the pronunciation of Ariadne somewhere on here as people frequently find her blog when they search for it. They ask things like: How do you pronounce Ariadne? Well, I'll explain. The first syllable is 'ah' as in but, the second syllable is 'ree' as in reed, the third syllable is the same as the first but with a 'd' tacked on to the end, and the last sounds like 'knee.' Put it together and you get: ah-ree-ahd-knee. :-). I hope that explains it well enough.
I'll update with more music info if you want. Tell me what you want me to write about!
Hugs,
Katelyn
It's Independence Day in the beautiful United States of America. I am happy to report that this weekend was phenomenal! I have pictures to update with today and hopefully video later on this week. :-). The first pic of of Sarah and I on Saturday after we went shopping at The Christmas Tree Shop. Aren't our shades just fabulous? Hehe!

Yes yes, Sarah came down here for the weekend. We had soo much fun. I think last night and today were by far the best times. Last night, the 3rd of July, there were bonfires all up and down Humarock beach. It's an annual tradition that the residents of Humarock uphold, despite the warnings the police department gives that they'll slap you with hefty fines. Who cares! The show must go on!
Bonfires down the beach

More bonfires down the beach

Fireworks!!!

As you can see, it's quite a fun evening. :-). I'm hoping to have short video shots of it coming up later on in the week. I have to do some editing first.
So then today, we woke up, had a nice breakfast, rowed out to my dock, jumped off my dock several times and swam around in the river, then headed to the ocean for another nice swim. (Wow, run-on sentence! :-P.) I may edit later with pictures of us jumping off the dock and swimming around the river...we shall see! Anyways, after that, we dried off briefly, but then headed over to my Auntie Frannie's house in Hingham where we jumped into her pool and stayed there pretty much the whole time. (We took a minor break to eat and learn how to play cribbage.) I kid you not, I was in the water swimming more than 7 1/2 hours today. It was amazing! So now I am back home, Sarah is back up at MIT, and we are both pooped out to the extreme. I'll probably watch the fireworks on TV then head to bed so I can wake up for work tomorrow! Goody! Haha.
I hope you all had great weekends! If you did anything special, let me know!
Biiiiiig hug,
Katelyn
