Installed
VirtualBox a few days ago. It's easy to use, lighter than
VMware, faster than
QEMU. Of course the latter two provides some functionalities that are unavailable in VirtualBox, yet I have to admit that I like this one almost at the first sight. It's free for personal and evaluation use, and even better, it has an open-source edition that's licensed under
GNU General Public License, Version 2.
After installation, I started using it immediately without first reading the documents. That's not my usual way of testing new software, but this time I did not want to wait. The first guest operating system I wanted to test is
Ubuntu. I've got a 6.06 CD and have been long for trying it out. Step-by-step the VirtualBox wizard guided me through the process of building a new guest system. It was easy, and I just simply follow the instructions and my intuition.
Well, perhaps my previous experience in evaluating VMware and
VMware Player did give me some confidence and the UI is pretty straitforward.
Given the first two days' evaluation, I think it's a good replacement of VMware Player and I expect it to stay on my harddisk longer.
