whoops!

Well, I guess I'm not so good at posting as often as I would like. But I'm sure most of you understand how busy it is here. And as everyone likes to do, I'm going to talk about all the things going on in my life right now (I've noticed it's often a competition among MITers to see who is the most hosed every week. . .). So, let's see. Classes have been busy. I've decided to take 3 course 3 classes, and a HASS. I was originally taking another HASS as well. . .but that didn't work out so well for me. I'm taking 3.064 (Polymer Engineering), 3.080 (Economic & Environmental Issues in Materials Selection), and 3.15 (Electrical, Optical & Magnetic Materials and Devices). They're all really neat, and they all have a pretty diverse spread of information. 3.080 has actually never been taught before, and so there are only 7 people in the class! So it's cool because we can discuss things pretty casually, and it's really good for when you have any questions. 3.064 is also pretty neat, because it's almost in a seminar format, though it's still an actual class. 3.15 is my most challenging class, but I still enjoy learning about everything in that class, though it's a bit difficult at times! Oh, and my HASS is 21M.262 (Modern Music). That class is pretty cool. We get to listen to all sorts of music from 1900 through the 1960s. And today, we had the unique experience to meet and listen to the Endellion String Quartet. (there's a short blurb about them on page 7 of the October 26th Tech Talk) But yeah, it was pretty cool to get to meet these guys! And they're performing a free concert tomorrow night at 8 pm in Kresge.

Other than classes, I've been working with the Next House Resonance and preparing for Sigma Kappa Late Night. It's a big variety/talent show my sorority holds every year to raise money for Alzheimer's Disease research. (if you want to come, buy tickets today in the student center or tomorrow in Lobby 10 for $5, or at the door for $6) I'm a bit nervous, because I'm dancing (though I'm not a dancer by any means!) and I'm going to be one of the MCs for the show. But still, you should all come and see all the cool things that MIT students can do! There's going to be singing, juggling, dancing, and much more! Plus you can come and laugh at me. That's always lots of fun! So, yeah, the show is this Saturday at 8pm in Kresge.

Oh, and the last thing that's been taking up my life is applying to jobs. Luckily, the Careers Office is really helpful with this. They've got lots of resources there. The most important part for me, though, has been Monstertrak. You can submit your resume to companies directly through the website, and most interviews take place at MIT. Definitely a good resource.

Well, speaking of jobs, I've got an interview to go to soon, so I should be getting ready. If you have any questions about anything I've written about, or have a suggestion for specific topic I should discuss, let me know.

long weekend

I have to say, I'm a fan of these long weekends. I got to go home and hang out with my family! I was going to go see my sister's marching band perform (she's a drum major!) but their performance was cancelled due to the weather. The upside is I did get to watch a recording of the band on video, though that's definitely not as cool as seeing the real thing. At any rate, I did see two movies this weekend! (well, watched one on DVD, saw one in theatres). So, thus returns my "Movie Thoughts!"

The first movie I watched this weekend was The Muppets take Manhattan. It's a pretty cute movie, and I think I remember seeing some of the scenes before.

I went to go see Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit at the movies. It was fantastic! Now, I've been a fan of the short films with these characters in the past, so when I originally saw previews of it, I was super excited. So, basically, this movie is hilarious. Take claymation characters, add some British accents and humor, an obsession with cheese and crazy inventions, adorable rabbits, telling facial expressions, and a little adult humor, and you've got one of the best movies I've seen in a while. It's just so incredibly funny! It's hard to explain the awesomeness of this movie without spilling the plot line, but I assure you, it will have you laughing (unless you don't like what I listed earlier).

Well, I'm typing this up on the train, so I can post it when I get back to campus, but we're about to reach South Station, so I'm going to have to end this here. Hope you all enjoyed the 4-day weekend!

Shameless plug!

Hey Folks,

Haven't posted in a while, but I've been busy (as I know all you have been). I just figured I was going to copy Anisa and promote Resonance and their/our upcoming CD. Let me start off by telling you. . .we're a co-ed a cappella group consisting of MIT undergrads and grads who sing mostly pop music. We have lots of fun singing around MIT and the Boston area, and actually went on tour over last spring break! That was a cool experience, since we got to sing at some of the Admitted Students parties, as well as for some high schools in the northeast.

So, the real reason I'm posting this is to let you all know about our CDs. We currently have one CD out, and are coming out with our next CD this Fall. And here's the scoop:

* New CD's are $12 for Pre-Order, $15 after it's released, so it's a better deal if you order now.
* Old CDs are $15.
* Superdeals are $20 for 1 old CD and 1 new CD. ($12 for new cd and $8 sale price for the old cd)

So, let me know if you'd like to buy one, or contact Anisa or Mike (he's one of our new members!), or go to our CD page to get one.

Okay then, I guess that's it for now. Anyone doing anything over the 4-day weekend?
