FCC chief recommends OK of satellite radio deal

The proposed merger of the nation's two satellite radio broadcasters -- bogged down in the regulatory process for over a year -- has cleared a major hurdle: The Federal Communications Commission chief is recommending approval of the $3.8 billion deal.

FCC Chairman Kevin Martin made his recommendation Sunday in exchange for a number of concessions, including turning 24 channels over to noncommercial and minority programming. That sets the stage for a final vote that could occur any time after Martin's recommendation is circulated among his fellow commissioners.

The provision on noncommercial and minority programming along with several others -- including a three-year price freeze for customers -- persuaded Martin to support Sirius Satellite Radio Inc.'s buyout of rival XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. The deal would affect millions of subscribers who pay to hear music, news, sports and talk programming, largely free from advertising, in homes and vehicles.

The other four commissioners have kept their views on the deal largely to themselves. Unlike most FCC decisions, there is no clear indication how the vote will go.

Software Company Expands in Tampa Bay, Adds Jobs

Performance Software, headquartered in Phoenix, recently selected Pinellas County to expand with a new branch of operations. The expansion will add 30 new jobs over three years, each paying 200% of the average annual wage in unincorporated Pinellas County. Competing with Oregon and Iowa for the expansion, Pinellas County beat out Oregon and Iowa which were also competing for the expansion. FTC opens formal probe of Intel

Escalating the world's largest computer chip maker's legal woes, the Federal Trade Commission has opened a formal probe into Intel Corp.'s sales tactics.

The move is a victory for its much smaller rival, Advanced Micro Devices Inc.

Intel disclosed Friday that it has received a subpoena from the FTC for records about Intel's microprocessor sales, which dominate the world market with a roughly 80 percent share.

The FTC's two-year investigation had been considered "informal" until that point, and Intel, which is already fighting antitrust charges in the European Union and was fined this week by antitrust regulators in South Korea, said it had been cooperating.

MENAMBAHKAN TRANSPARANSI/ SUPERIMPOSING di Adobe Premiere

 Anda dapat mengatur transparansi suatu movie clip. Bahkan Anda dapat menggabungkan video yang satu dengan yang lainnya. Misalnya menggunkan clip yang satu sebagai background clip yang lain. Tehnik ini disebut sebagai Superimposing.

1. Transparansi hanya dapat diaplikasikan pada track superimpose. Yang dimaksud track superimpose adalah track Video 2, 3 dan seterusnya. Karena itu pindahkan track finale.avi ke track Video 2.
2. Klik tanda panah disamping Video 2 untuk membuka track. Disini terdapat Opacity Rubberband berwarna merah. Clip sudah memiliki dua handel yaitu di awal dan akhir. Untuk membuat handel lainnya, klik di tengah-tengah garis.
3. Posisi garis menentukan intensitas transparansi. Apabila diatas berarti clip solid (tidak transparan). Geser handle dibagian akhir clip ke bawah, dengan demikian perlahan-lahan clip akan transparan.
4. Pilih menu Timeline> Add Video Track untuk menambah track baru (Video3)
5. Drag clipveloman.eps ke track Video3 tepat diatas finale.avi. Perhatikan di Program Monitor, clip veloman.eps memiliki backgroung warna putih.
6. Klik kanan velomen.eps, Video options> Transparency, pada kotak dialog, pilih Key Tipe: Alpha Channel. Pemilihan Alpha Channel disebabkan file veloman.eps sudah memiliki Alpha Channel di dalamnya. Alpha channel memiliki infomasi transparansi didalamnya. Tekan OK.
7. Lakukan preview, kini finale.avi menjadi background dari veloman.eps.

MENAMBAHKAN ANIMASI PADA CLIP di Adobe Premiere

Dengan Premiere Anda dapat menganimasikan clip, mengatur skala atau rotasinya.

1. Di Timeline, sleksi clip Veloman.eps, klik kanan, pilih Video Options> Options.. jendela motion setting akan terbuka. Kotak disebelah kiri digunakan untuk preview animasi, kotak sebelah kanan digunakan untuk mengatur animasi. Aktifkan Show All, jika ingin melihat preview hasilnya.
2. Kotak kecil menandakan keyframe di awal dan akhir clip. Klik keyframe awal dan geser posisi clip ke sudut kiri atas.
3. Klik keyframe akhir dan geser posisi clip ke posisi yang diinginkan.
4. Sekarang Anda atur skala dan rotasinya. Seleksi keyframe akhir. Masukkan nilai Rotations 360 derajat dan Zoom 30%.

MENGATUR PROJECTS SETTINGS di Adobe Premiere

Proyek (project) adalah sebutan dari pekerjaan editing yang dilakukan di Premiere. Pada saat memulai proyek Anda perlu menentukan setting dari projects tersebut. Anda juga dapat mengubah setting sewaktu-waktu dengan memilih dari menu atas Project.Project Setting.

1. Buka Adobe Premiere 6.5 atau pilih dari menu atas File>New Project
2. Di jendela Load Project Setting pilih preset yang diinginan.
3. Untuk memudahkan proses edit, pastikan Anda menggunakan workspace A/B Editing. Pilih dari menu atas Window>Workspace>A/B Editing

MENGATUR PREFERENSI PREMIERE

Anda dapat mengatur berbaai preferensi di dalam Premiere. Dari menu atas pilih Edit>Preferences.

Salah satu yang perlu diketahui adalah bagaimana Premiere menggunakan scratch disk. Ketika Anda melakukan proses editing, Premiere menggunakan RAM untuk bekerja. Bila RAM tidak mencukupi maka Premiere akan menggunakan sebagian dari harddisk (scratch disk). Premiere juga menggunakan scratch disk untuk membuat file preview.

Anda dapat menginstruksikan Premiere yang menggunakan harddisk yang mana akan dipakai sebagai scratch disk, baik untuk file hasil capture, file video preview dan file audio preview.

PREMIERE USER INTERFACE

Ketika anda membuka Adobe Premiere pertama kali, anda akan diminta memilih Workspace. Workspace akan dibahas dalam bahasan berikut. Untuk sementara, pilihlah A/B Editing. Anda nanti dapat berganti mode workspace dengan mudah.

Setiap kali anda membuka Premiere atau membuat proyek baru (File>New Project), maka jendela Load Project Settings akan muncul. Jendela ini adalah tempat Premiere mendapat informasi teknis mengenai proyek. Anda dapat memilih settings yan sudah tersedia (available preset).

    Jika ingin melakukan capturing, Anda dapat memilih preset yang sesuai dengan hardware yang Anda pakai. Misalnya Anda menggunakan kamera digital Anda dapat memilih preset DV-PAL. Secara umum pilihan yang sesuai dengan berbagai kamera  adalah standard 32 kHz. 32 kHz menyatakan rate dimana audio direkam. Jika Anda menggunakan widescreen camcorder maka Anda perlu memilih pilihan wide screen.

    Jika Anda hanya menggunakan Premiere untuk mengedit video, anda dapat memilih preset yang sesuai dengan tujuan akhir video nantinya. (PAL, NTSC, atau multimedia).
    Anda juga dapat menggunakan pilihan Custom. Di sini Anda dapat menentukan sendiri berbagai atribut video,seperti frame rate, frame size, compressor, dan aspect ratio.
