Random 10 Songs on iTunes
Well, given that I commented in my last post about my enjoyment of music, I thought I should go ahead and do the obligatory “pick up your mp3 player, put it on random mode, and write down the first ten songs that play” post. For those of you only here for the financial aid information, feel free to skip the post as there will be no financial aid information here. For the rest of you, please feel free to post the results of your own “First 10” as feedback to this post. I would love to see how I stack up! (And by the way, for those interested, I do not own an iPod, instead I own the RCA Lyra - see my review of it here).
1. Eminem - “Brain Damage“ from The Slim Shady LP. OK, so I know Eminem isn't politically correct, and that much of what he does is ripped from people who have done it much better for much longer, but I just enjoy the act. I don't take any of it seriously -- I think he goes for the shock just for the shock. And he does have good hooks.
2. Capitol Steps - “That'sa Lawyer”. If you don't know the Capital Steps, you should. They make fun of everything political, from George Bush to Bill Clinton to George Bush. They are humor and political satire at its best.
3. Paul Van Dyk - “Nu NRG / Dreamland.” Showing off my passion for good beats and good dance music. I love the electronic / techno movement, particularly the high energy, strong bass, sweet melodic sounds of Van Dyk, Oakenfold, etc.
4. Foreigner - “Girl on the Moon.” I came of age (in a musical sense) during the 1980s and I do have a passion for the music of the time. This isn't my favorite of Foreigner's stuff, but it isn't bad either.
5. Depeche Mode - “People Are People.” An 80s classic. One of my all-time favorite 80s songs (and it showed up at random?). Definitely worth a repeat listen, and a social message as well!
6. Kylie Minogue - “In Your Eyes (Roger Sanchez mix).” I do like Kylie's voice. And she is QUITE a presence. Enough said.
7. Achinoam Nini - “Eye Opener.” Achinoam Nini, or Noa as she is called, is an Israeli folk-rock artist who sings both in Hebrew and English. This is one of her songs. She is usually joined by Gil Dor on percussion. A great combination.
8. Abdy - “Galbi.” From Putumayo's Arabic Groove, a wonderful CD full of songs from the Middle East performed in Arabic by local favorites.
9. Maroon 5 - “Harder to Breathe.” Yes I still listen to pop radio, and still fall into the current “BOTM” scenario (Band of the Month).
10. Ivy - “Let's Stay Inside.” From the terrific release, Long Distance, which includes “Undertow” (featured in the TV show “Roswell“) and “Worry About You” (featured in “Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital” and “The 4400”). I play this entire CD often. Great music, full of pop but also very mellow. Very reminiscent of Zero 7, another band I enjoy.
Anyway, that is my 10 random songs. Let me know yours (of course, you should only be playing them after you have done your financial aid applications).
